Sagrada Familia

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain with over 1,600,000 people. I am pretty sure half of them were at this famously unfinished, work-in-progress by Gaudi. He died in 1926. The reason the fascists didn’t destroy this church is because the pedestrian bridge in between allowed their snipers an opportunistic position.

View from Hostel

View from the Mellow Eco Hostel. It was a nice walk uphill. And then another walk uphill. And then a third one! On the way up a large bench full of middle aged squat Spanish women moved their heads up and down in unison tracking us as we walked by. What else could I do but turnaround and give them a big wave and smile. People watching is a “critical” pastime here.

The hostel had a wonderful seafood paella that night made by a Californian. After 5 1/2 hours of walking around it was great! One of the Russian young men said how amazing it is that I am the third person from the US he has met in Spain who is older, quit their job and is “looking for themselves.” I replied that I am pretty sure I know where I am.

Casa Batllo

Or as I like to call it, dung beetle architecture by Gaudi. Seriously how much acid did this guy drop to design this stuff? Wondering why so many people are standing outside taking pictures? Because it’s 18€ to get in!
