London Photos

On my last day in London I walked from High Street Kensington through Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace Park to Picadilly Circus and The Comedy Theatre to see the Harold Pinter play Betrayal. Then I walked from the theatre to Trafalgar Square passed the highly fortified 10 Downing St where a Libyan bombing protest was going on in typical proper English fashion. On to Parliament, Westminster Abbey and finally to MI5 (British equivalent of the FBI with a tinge of CIA thrown in. Watch the Brit series Spooks or MI5 and you’ll know what I’m talking about.)

Orient Express

The Orient Express was sitting at Victoria Station while passengers boarded for a high end lunch and visit to Bath, England. The engine sounded like a porsche. I have video but I need to see how to upload videos to this blog.

Wimbledon

Every year Londoners and others queue up overnight for center court tickets at Wimbledon. The orgnaization provides a park with actual bathrooms not porta potties, food and drink vendors, parking during the day, newspapers, garbage collection and a jolly ole time as you camp the night or two nights before the matches you want to see. I camped the night before the women’s quarterfinals and bought third row seats by the players’ entrance in the corner so my head didn’t have to move back and forth and back and forth. It was like a show and most people were very close to the action. I met people from mostly the US, Canada, Spain and of course England who have been doing this nearly twenty years. A few years ago the camping was on the sidewalk and cars would drive by all night honking. I purchased my el cheapo tent ($23) that day near High Street Kensington and donated it a few days later. Princess beatrice is in one of the photos. She was sitting to my right. In the Sharapova match I took a photo of her fiance from the Los Angeles Lakers sitting near John McEnroe.

High Road House

Only 12 rooms here. How could I afford this? See post above. Here is more info on The High Road House. It’s in the Chiswick section of London. They have these amazing shampoos, conditioners, lotions and liquid soaps from their company next door called the Cow Shed. I highly recommend this place if you want to throw them a lot of cash and/or if you’re going with another person and can split it. It’s right near a tube stop. There is not very good parking though. I had rented a car for a few days after I checked out and went back to get my belongings. I just love driving on the opposite side of the road.

Trivia Question

This is Buckingham Palace. Can anyone give me the surname of the royals? We know them by Prince Charles, Prince William, Queen Elizabeth II, etc. but what in the world is their last name? Hint…it is made up. They don’t require surnames for passports and licenses however they do use something.
